For Dr. Rodríguez-Peña it all started after losing her third dental assistant within a couple of months…
After talking with other dentists in the area, she found they were having similar experiences and realized a troubling trend:
Dental assistants graduating from nearby schools were not prepared for their roles.
Dr. Rodríguez-Peña knew something had to change. So, she took action.
Her vision?

OceanPointe has designed a schedule around our students’ needs so they don’t have to wait months to start the next class. Our new classes start every seven weeks with open enrollment for each session available for you to join at any point during the year.
The program is 10 weeks long, with an 11th day available for additional practice or instruction.
Classes are held twice a week on Monday's 6-10 PM and Friday's 3-7 PM. This schedule allows our students to continue working their current jobs while they complete the program. Additionally, students should plan to attend a 4-hour orientation session prior to the first day of class.
There are a maximum of 20 students in each class. This allows for plenty of individualized attention and ensures that everyone in the class gets the most out of the program.
At capacity, we have one teacher to every five students.
The curriculum is blended. About 24 hours of instruction will be available online, and 64 hours will be conducted in person, as well as a 40 hour externship.
The program costs $6,670. This tuition covers the 10-week program and includes dental supplies, textbook, scrubs and shirt, and radiology certification.
We only offer payment in full in the form of cash, bank check, or credit card. We also accept payment from grants like WIOA, etc.
We do offer a down payment of $600 up to two weeks before the start of classes with signed applications to reserve a spot. After that, full payment is required.
Students should generally be older than 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and have access to a computer or smartphone.
We do not do background checks at this time.
A criminal conviction will need to be explained to the New Jersey Board of Dentistry, and all necessary documents submitted for evaluation.
Students will receive a completion certificate which after completing a Dental X-ray program will allow the student to apply
to the Dental Assistant National Board (DANB) to become a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA).
We offer personalized coaching, resume templates, mock interviews, and salary negotiation techniques to secure your dream job. We have also partnered with dental offices in the area to help you gain your shadowing hours. These turn out to be valuable connections to have when searching for a job after graduation.
